For the development of a knowledge-based bioeconomy which becomes increasingly less reliant on fossil fuels, new technology-oriented value added chains and networks need to become established in order to tap the potential of algae as a bio-resource for small and medium sized enterprises. The goal is to build up a cluster of primarily small and medium sized enterprises and research establishments for the development of new technologies, products, processes and services for the future cultivation and use of algae. The priorities are the optimisation of process controls, instrumentation and control, innovative peripheral systems (drying, dewatering, treatment), aquaculture links and the development of innovative products from algae (cosmetics, food supplements and fodder).
