Innovative approaches of existing cleaning processes

By precision cleaning, contamination with sub-micron particles  or with a few molecular layers of unwanted substances will be removed from products or surfaces. Precision cleaning therefore involves the removal of less desired substances. During the cleaning process, often  material structures like roughness, chemical, electrical or optical characteristics of surfaces are changed too. To prepare for  the cleaning process starts, surface characterization and in particular detection of particles and other contamination has to be done. The network is formed interdisciplinary and combines various expertise from practice and research.

The goal of the innovation network is to develop and evaluate precision cleaning processes for new and innovative production processes with the following characteristics:

  • Defined mechanism
  • Reproducibility
  • Flexibility and modularity
  • Resource and environment friendly
  • Transferable to other applications
  • Focused on individual and small series production as well as on special applications

A special attention is given to precision cleaning processes with a high flexibility regarding the requirements of different products and  a high reproducibility at the same time. This combination is particularly interesting for SME, because they have to adapt quickly and competently on new inquiries.

The work of the network is  focused on cleaning processes, with a high potential to for integration in manufacturing processes and highest level of cleanliness of parts. The networks keeps special attention  on physical methods and combined physical and chemical methods such as plasma etching, laser ablation, ultrasound and CO2 pellet blasting process.
